Southern Plumbing is a proud family-owned and operated plumbing business that has been proudly servicing Hobart and surrounding areas since 1969. Backed by 57 years of industry experience, in providing high quality and innovative plumbing services for both our residential and commercial clients, we are assured to bring extensive knowledge and expertise to every project.

Our Journey
A family tradition of plumbing excellence and trusted service
Southern Plumbing began in 1969, when founder Geoff Leary established Southern Plumbing Service in Bellerive. The business expanded rapidly in 1975 when the Tasman Bridge collapse created unprecedented demand for skilled trades on Hobart’s Eastern Shore. In 1987, Geoff's son Todd began his apprenticeship, earning his advanced plumbing qualification in 1991 before establishing T.A. Leary Plumbing, specialising in new construction projects.
In 2000, following Geoff’s retirement, Todd merged the two family businesses to form Southern Plumbing Pty Ltd. The company relocated to Mornington, employed its first tradesperson (who remains part of the team today), and combined construction and maintenance services to broaden its expertise.
Over the decades, Southern Plumbing has remained family-owned and proudly Tasmanian, employing a dedicated team of 10–20 staff. The company’s success is built on its strong commitment to training and mentoring apprentices, supporting diversity within the trade, and fostering the next generation of skilled professionals.
